January 2026

It’s that time of the year when I like to reflect on what I promised myself at the beginning of the year and see how well I managed to keep those promises.

Looking back at my 2025 resolutions, I nailed the sleep part. Even though I could still reduce my screen time before going to bed, I do go to sleep early—thanks to my kid. I dropped most social networks, with YouTube being the last one standing. The next step would be to drop recreational YouTube and use it only as a tool.

Another aspect I want to improve is planning ahead what I want to relax with at night—either a book or even a movie—instead of watching content randomly and finding myself in a rabbit hole about building a mini PC just because it looks cool. That said, this is less of a priority since I sleep and recover very well, but it could become one if I start lacking time to do what I actually want.

Regarding food, my wife and I have been implementing strong habits and following some naturopathy best practices. Things are getting better, but I’m still lacking consistency—something I intend to improve in 2026. Overall, I’m happy with where we are: we now eat home-cooked meals for almost every meal of the day, with a good variety of ingredients and a solid framework that supports digestion and gut health, while giving me the energy to train and be mentally and physically present every day.

That said, it’s not all sunshine. I do need to reduce bakery food, which is pretty much the opposite of what I need nutritionally. I don’t necessarily want to ban it, but I do want to keep it at a reasonable level—ideally as a once-a-week treat.

Lastly, I promised myself to write. I did, but my focus changed throughout the year, which is also why this article is called “January 2026” and not simply “2026.” At first, I wanted to write more often, but I lost focus. Writing articles just for the sake of writing is not my goal. I truly want writing to become a natural part of my day, not a chore.

That’s why I now write short bursts of thoughts during the day using another app. The content is only for me, and that fits my needs better. I still think longer-form content like articles fits my needs as well, but instead of making it a weekly or daily obligation, I’ll keep it as a monthly practice to track personal milestones and ongoing projects.

Speaking of projects, I intended to recreate the 1999 Digimon World PlayStation 1 game using Godot. I didn’t document everything here, but long story short—I didn’t continue. I then switched to another project: rebuilding the Blitzball game from Final Fantasy X in Godot as a full-fledged standalone game. And again, long story short—I didn’t continue either.

And that’s okay. I’ll certainly pick up these projects again, but I may never truly finish them. They exist to satisfy a desire to build things I wish existed.

That said, the year went on, I quit my job at Poppy (again), and now I’m looking for new challenges. 2026 will most likely be a year where most of my time is dedicated to taking care of my family. With the remaining time, I intend to focus on two things:

  1. Health
This means being consistent with food and continuing my training. My first goal for 2026 is to run 10 km in around 45 minutes. I ended the year running 10 km in about 50 minutes, so this feels like a solid and realistic challenge. For strength and mobility, I went back to the Freeletics app, and combined with running, I train three times a week.

  2. Learning 3D
In 2024, I did some drawing and 3D modeling, and I was sure I would stop. At the time, I was completely overwhelmed by having a kid and all the new responsibilities. Now that things are smoother, I’ve decided to pick up 3D again—not only as a creative outlet, but also as a potential career change. I’m starting with the Blender Guru Beginner Academy. The goal is simple: put time into it every day of the week and discover what I like and dislike about it. I’ll share some progress here.

Now that the big picture is clear, let’s narrow it down to January 2026.

Here we go.
Happy New Year 🎉
